Prophecy, either genuine divine revelation or false prophetic claims
This late Hebrew term for prophecy appears in the Chronicles and Nehemiah, distinguishing written prophetic oracles from the earlier synonym 'vision' (chazon). It can refer to authentic prophecy like that of Ahijah the Shilonite (2 Chr 9) or genuine prophetic encouragement (2 Chr 15). But Nehemiah uses it for a false prophecy hired to intimidate him. The term emphasizes the verbal and textual nature of prophetic utterance—prophecy as message, whether true or counterfeit.
