1. planting, plantation — A noun denoting a planting, plantation, or the act/place of planting, used exclusively in prophetic literature. Refers to God's people as his planting: Israel as the 'planting of the LORD' for his glory (Isa 60:21; 61:3). Used of agricultural or horticultural plantings in Ezekiel's allegory of the vine transplanted to its planting place (Ezek 17:7; 31:4), and God's promise to raise up a 'planting of renown' so that Israel will no longer be consumed by famine (Ezek 34:29). Micah 1:6 uses the plural construct to describe Samaria being made into 'plantings of a vineyard.' The ketiv/qere variant at Isa 60:21 (מַטָּעוֹ / מַטָּעַי) reflects the ambiguity of whether the planting belongs to God (1cs) or to the righteous branch (3ms). 7×
