Joseph interprets his being sent to Egypt 'for preservation of life' (Gen 45:5, לְמִחְיָה). Ezra uses it twice for the 'little reviving' God granted the returning exiles (Ezra 9:8-9). In 2 Chr 14:13 it denotes survival ('there was no survival for them'). These all share the abstract sense of life-sustaining or life-restoring action.
