Preciousness, treasure; honor, esteem, glory; price or monetary worth
The Hebrew noun yeqar encompasses the full spectrum of what is valued — from tangible treasure to public honor to assigned price. In the book of Esther, where it appears most frequently, yeqar denotes the royal honor and splendor that Ahasuerus lavishes and that Haman craves (Esth 1:4; 6:6). Jeremiah uses it for the precious things of Jerusalem carried into exile (Jer 20:5), while Job speaks of the eye spotting every precious thing hidden in the earth (Job 28:10). Zechariah employs it with biting irony for the paltry 'price' at which the shepherd is valued — thirty pieces of silver (Zech 11:13). Arabic ikraam ('honoring') and thamin ('precious') together capture the word's double register of abstract esteem and concrete worth.
3. price, worth (monetary value) — The evaluative sense of price or monetary worth — the value assigned to something in a transaction. Zechariah 11:13 uses yeqar with devastating irony when the LORD says, 'the lordly price at which I was priced by them,' referring to the thirty pieces of silver. Spanish precio and Korean gap ('price/value') capture this commercial sense. It is the rarest usage, appearing only in this single prophetic passage, but it is lexicographically distinct from both honor and treasure. 1×

Senses
1. honor, esteem, glory — The abstract sense of honor, esteem, or glory — the quality of being publicly valued and respected. Esther uses this sense repeatedly: the splendor of the king's majesty (Esth 1:4), the honor Haman desires for himself (Esth 6:6-9), and the honor given to Mordecai (Esth 6:3, 6:11). Psalm 49:13,21 reflects on human honor that does not endure. German Ehre and Spanish honor correspond precisely. The Daniel passages (11:20-21) extend it to royal dignity and the glory of a kingdom. 12×

2. precious thing, treasure — The concrete sense of precious things, valuables, or treasure — tangible objects of great worth. Jeremiah mourns that all the precious things of Jerusalem will be plundered (Jer 20:5), and Ezekiel denounces leaders who seize treasure and precious things (Ezek 22:25). Job celebrates the miner's eye that spots every precious thing underground (Job 28:10). Proverbs 20:15 pairs yeqar with gold and rubies. Arabic thamin ('precious') and nafis ('exquisite') both illuminate this material register. 4×
