Art | N-fs  |  8× in 1 sense
Dry ground or land, especially as revealed by the miraculous withdrawal of water in divine acts of deliverance.
Refers to solid earth that is dry or has been made dry, most memorably in the context of God's miraculous water-crossings. When the Jordan parted for Israel (Josh 3:17) and when the Sea split before Moses (Exod 14:21), the exposed ground is called charavah. It also appears in Gen 7:22, marking the dry land from which the breath of life was swept away by the Flood. Spanish 'tierra seca' and German 'Trockenen' both capture the starkness of ground laid bare where water once stood.

Senses
1. dry land, dry ground Dry land or dry ground, the solid earth exposed when water recedes or is supernaturally divided. Nearly every occurrence involves a miraculous context: the parting of the Sea of Reeds (Exod 14:21), the crossing of the Jordan on dry ground (Josh 3:17; 4:18), and Elijah and Elisha crossing the Jordan (2 Kgs 2:8). The multilingual evidence is unanimous -- Spanish 'tierra seca,' French 'terre ferme,' German 'Trockenen' -- all converging on the image of firm, waterless ground. In Ezek 30:12 it extends to the prophetic drying up of the Nile channels, and in Hag 2:6 to God's shaking of the dry land alongside the sea.
