Verbo en la conjugación Hifil que significa enjuagar o limpiar mediante lavado, empleado tanto para la purificación ritual como para la limpieza moral figurada. En el contexto del templo, las víctimas sacrificiales se enjuagaban en las pilas antes de la ofrenda (Ez 40:38; 2 Cr 4:6). Isaías 4:4 eleva la imagen para describir a Dios lavando la inmundicia y las manchas de sangre de las hijas de Jerusalén mediante un espíritu de juicio y de fuego. El cognado arameo en Afel confirma el sentido causativo de 'hacer que sea lavado'. En Jer 51:34 la lectura Qere redirige a נָדָה (expulsar), una raíz distinta.
