Gold (Aramaic); the precious metal, used in Daniel and Ezra for golden vessels, statues, and royal ornamentation.
The Aramaic cognate of Hebrew zāhāb, this noun appears exclusively in the Aramaic portions of Daniel and Ezra. Nebuchadnezzar's statue has a head of gold (Dan 2:32), his golden image towers on the plain of Dura (Dan 3:1), and Belshazzar drinks from the golden vessels plundered from Jerusalem's temple (Dan 5:2-3). In Ezra, the word marks the gold items Cyrus restores to Israel (Ezra 5:14; 6:5) and the silver and gold donated for the rebuilt temple (Ezra 7:15-18). Across every target language — Spanish 'oro,' French 'or,' German 'Gold' — the rendering is identical to the Hebrew equivalent.

Senses
1. gold (Aramaic) Gold as a precious metal in Aramaic, covering royal statues (Dan 2:32; 3:1), temple vessels seized and restored (Dan 5:2-3; Ezra 5:14; 6:5), and treasure for rebuilding (Ezra 7:15-18). Both emphatic dahabā and absolute dehab denote the same substance. Spanish 'oro,' German 'Gold' confirm a single undivided sense. 23×
