N-AFS  |  9× in 1 sense
Order, arrangement; a fixed succession or established pattern, especially of priestly or institutional rank.
Taxis conveys the idea of an established arrangement or appointed order. In classical Greek it ranged from military formations to civic ranks, but the New Testament narrows its usage to two main spheres: liturgical priestly order and congregational propriety. Zechariah serves according to the taxis of his priestly division (Luke 1:8), Paul insists that everything in worship be done decently and in taxis (1 Cor 14:40), and Hebrews repeatedly identifies Christ as a priest 'according to the order of Melchizedek' (Heb 5:6, 10; 6:20; 7:11, 17). The Spanish orden, French ordre, and German Ordnung all preserve this dual sense of rank and proper arrangement.

Senses
1. order A fixed arrangement, established order, or appointed succession. In the NT this word carries two related applications: (a) the priestly order or rank to which one belongs, as in the Aaronic division of Zechariah (Luke 1:8) and supremely the eternal priesthood 'according to the order of Melchizedek' (Heb 5:6, 10; 6:20; 7:11, 17); and (b) good order or proper arrangement in communal life, as when Paul commends the Colossians' taxis and firmness (Col 2:5) and commands orderly worship (1 Cor 14:40). The multilingual glosses (spa orden, fra ordre, deu Ordnung) uniformly capture both institutional rank and structured propriety under a single lexical concept.
