Fellow citizen, one who shares citizenship in the same political community
A fellow citizen, someone who shares membership in the same civic community. Paul tells Gentile believers in Ephesians 2:19 they are 'no longer strangers and aliens, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God's household.' The political metaphor is vivid: conversion grants citizenship in God's commonwealth. In the Greco-Roman world, citizenship conferred rights, protections, and identity. Paul reverses the Gentiles' former status: once outsiders to Israel's covenant, they now share full citizenship with Jewish believers in the people of God.

Senses
1. sense 1 The shared citizenship of Jews and Gentiles in God's eschatological community. Paul uses political language to describe spiritual reality: Gentile Christians have been granted full civic rights in God's people. Spanish 'conciudadanos', German 'Mitbürger', French transcribes the Greek. The metaphor emphasizes equality and belonging: no second-class members, but full participants in the holy nation whose capital is the New Jerusalem.
