N-AFS  |  3× in 1 sense
a bunch or cluster of grapes, fresh fruit still on the vine or recently harvested
The Greek word for a bunch of grapes—fruit clustered together on the stem. Jesus uses it in parallel teachings: you cannot gather grapes from thornbushes (Matt 7:16, Luke 6:44), and Revelation 14:18 depicts an angel gathering 'the clusters of grapes of the earth's vine' for the winepress of God's wrath. The image evokes vineyards, harvest, and the fruit that reveals a plant's true nature. Classical Greek distinguishes fresh grapes (σταφυλή) from dried raisins and unripe grapes, emphasizing the ripe, ready-to-harvest state.

Senses
1. sense 1 Uniform translations: English 'grapes', Spanish 'uva/uvas', French 'raisin', German 'Trauben'. Jesus' proverbial use (you know a plant by its fruit) assumes grapes grow on vines, not thornbushes—obvious agricultural wisdom becomes spiritual metaphor. Revelation's apocalyptic harvest extends the image: humanity as a vineyard, clusters gathered for divine judgment, the grapes pressed in the winepress of wrath.
