Luke reports that handkerchiefs and aprons that touched Paul's body carried healing power to the sick in Ephesus (Acts 19:12). The term σιμικίνθιον, borrowed from Latin semicinctium, designated work aprons or sweatbands used by laborers and tradesmen. Paul the tentmaker would have worn such cloths while working with leather and fabric. The extraordinary miracle—secondary contact healing through work clothes—demonstrated God's power and authenticated Paul's apostleship in a city dominated by magical practices. These ordinary items became vehicles of divine power.
