A verb meaning to announce beforehand, to proclaim or declare in advance. Peter uses it twice in Acts about prophetic proclamation of Christ. In Acts 3:18, 'what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled'—the prophets announced in advance the Messiah's suffering. In Acts 7:52, Stephen asks which prophet the fathers didn't persecute, 'those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One'—the prophets declared in advance the coming Messiah. The word emphasizes prior prophetic announcement, advance declaration of what God would do.
