1. exceedingly, all the more — Adverb meaning exceedingly, abundantly, all the more, or beyond measure. Encompasses both the comparative form perissoteros (more abundantly/exceedingly) and the positive perissos (exceedingly), as well as the intensive ekperissos (vehemently, Mark 14:31). All forms share the same core semantic range of expressing degree beyond the normal or expected. Used by Paul to describe his abundant labor (2 Cor 11:23), his zeal in Judaism (Gal 1:14), his love for the Corinthians (2 Cor 2:4; 7:13, 15; 12:15), the boldness of believers (Phil 1:14), and his eagerness to see the Thessalonians (1 Thess 2:17). In Mark 15:14, the crowd cries out perissos (all the more). In Hebrews 2:1 and 13:19, it modifies exhortations to pay closer attention. The multilingual glosses are remarkably uniform: Hebrew yoter (more), German umso mehr, Arabic akthara (more), Korean deoukdeo (more and more), Spanish mas abundantemente.
