V-PIA-3S  |  7× in 1 sense
To shine, gleam, radiate light; used of lamps, the sun, lightning, the transfigured Christ, and the righteous in glory.
Lampo describes the emission of light, whether from a lamp set on a stand (Matt 5:15), the flash of lightning across the sky (Luke 17:24), or the radiant face of the transfigured Jesus shining like the sun (Matt 17:2). It appears in both literal and theologically charged contexts: believers are called to let their light shine before others (Matt 5:16), and an angel's sudden light fills a dark prison cell (Acts 12:7). Spanish 'brillar/alumbrar' and German 'leuchten' both capture the active, outward-directed quality of this shining rather than a mere state of brightness.

Senses
1. shine, give light To give off light, to shine or gleam visibly. Every NT use involves visible radiance that breaks into darkness or catches the eye. At the transfiguration (Matt 17:2), Jesus' face 'shone like the sun,' using lampo to describe supernatural brilliance. In the Sermon on the Mount (Matt 5:15-16), the same verb moves from the practical light of an oil lamp to the metaphorical shining of good works. French 'briller' and Spanish 'alumbrar/brillar' preserve the dual register of physical luminosity and metaphorical visibility that lampo carries.
