Humo; el vapor visible que se eleva del fuego, usado en contextos de gloria teofánica, juicio y destrucción apocalíptica. Es la palabra griega común para el humo: el vapor oscuro y ondulante producido por la combustión. Aunque el término es sencillo en su sentido literal, el NT lo emplea casi exclusivamente en contextos teológicos y apocalípticos cargados de significado. En Pentecostés, Pedro cita la profecía de Joel sobre «sangre y fuego y vapor de humo» (Hch 2:19). En Apocalipsis, el humo sube del incienso del altar de oro ante Dios (Ap 8:4), brota del abismo como humo de un gran horno (Ap 9:2) y asciende del tormento de Babilonia para siempre (Ap 14:11; 18:9, 18; 19:3).
