sun (the celestial body)

Senses
1. sun (the celestial body) The sun as a celestial body, the primary source of light and heat for the earth. All 32 NT occurrences refer to the same physical sun, with the two clusters differing only in grammatical case (nominative/accusative vs genitive 'of the sun'). Multilingual evidence is uniform: spa 'sol' / 'de sol', hin 'surya' (suraj), arb 'al-shams', kor 'hae', swa 'jua' / 'ya jua'. Used literally of the sun darkening at the crucifixion, the sun's brilliance in apocalyptic imagery, and the sun as a metaphor for Christ's glory (Rev 1:16). No semantic split exists between the nominative and genitive clusters. 32×
