N-NMS  |  1× in 1 sense
Euroclydon or Euraquilo, a stormy northeast wind in the Mediterranean; a violent tempestuous wind
This term designates a fierce northeastern wind in the Mediterranean, combining Greek and Latin elements (probably 'euro-' from Greek for east wind and 'aquilo' from Latin for north wind). In Acts 27:14, this 'northeaster' strikes Paul's ship sailing to Rome, driving it off course and nearly destroying the vessel. Ancient sailors dreaded this particular wind for its violence and the way it could catch ships unexpectedly.

Senses
1. sense 1 Luke's detailed shipwreck narrative (Acts 27:14) identifies this tempestuous wind as the cause of Paul's maritime disaster. Rising suddenly from the island of Crete, it drove the ship southwest across the Mediterranean for fourteen terror-filled days before they finally ran aground at Malta. The technical nautical terminology shows Luke's concern for accuracy in recording this harrowing journey. Ancient mariners' fear of this wind proved well-founded.
