N-AMS  |  1× in 1 sense
Belial or Beliar, a name for Satan; a designation for the devil as adversary and embodiment of evil
This proper noun designates Belial (or Beliar), a name for Satan used in Jewish literature and the New Testament. Paul employs it in 2 Corinthians 6:15: 'What accord has Christ with Beliar? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever?' The term (from Hebrew בְּלִיַּעַל, 'worthlessness') became personified as a demonic figure or Satan himself. Paul uses it to underscore the absolute incompatibility between Christ and the powers of darkness. There can be no partnership, no middle ground—the covenant people must separate from the realm of Beliar and walk in the light.

Senses
1. sense 1 The evidence simply transliterates the name (Beliar, Bélial) across languages, confirming its identity as a designation for Satan. 2 Corinthians 6:15 uses Βελιάρ to personify evil in antithesis to Christ, arguing that believers cannot maintain spiritual fellowship with darkness—Beliar's domain is utterly opposed to Christ's kingdom, demanding radical separation and holiness.
