N-AMS  |  23× in 1 sense
A vineyard -- a cultivated plot of grapevines, often used in Jesus' parables of God's kingdom
The standard Greek word for a vineyard, a plot planted with grapevines. In the Synoptic Gospels it serves as a powerful parabolic image: the owner who hires laborers at different hours (Matt 20:1-16), the wicked tenants who kill the owner's son (Matt 21:33-41; Mark 12:1-9; Luke 20:9-16), and the two sons sent to work (Matt 21:28-31). Paul invokes it to defend apostolic rights: 'Who plants a vineyard and does not eat its fruit?' (1 Cor 9:7). The LXX background, especially Isaiah 5's Song of the Vineyard, enriches every usage with covenant overtones.

Senses
1. a vineyard A cultivated plot of grapevines, used literally and as a parabolic image for God's dealings with humanity. Features in the laborers parable (Matt 20:1-8), the wicked tenants (Matt 21:33-41; Mark 12:1-9; Luke 20:9-16), and Paul's apostolic-rights argument (1 Cor 9:7). The LXX tradition, especially Isaiah 5's Song of the Vineyard, provides deep covenantal resonance. 23×
