El verbo arameo תְּקֵף describe el proceso de volverse poderoso o endurecerse. En Daniel 4, el gran árbol 'se hizo fuerte' (4:11, 20), reflejando la expansión del dominio de Nabucodonosor, y al propio rey se le dice 'te has hecho fuerte' (4:22). Un matiz más sombrío emerge en 5:20, donde la arrogancia endurecida conduce a la caída. El tallo Pael en 6:7 adquiere un sentido causativo: 'imponer' o hacer vinculante un decreto. El español capta ambos polos: 'se hizo fuerte' y 'para imponer'.
