Solomon's Temple dedication prayer uses it repeatedly alongside tefillah ('prayer'), entreating God to hear 'the prayer and the supplication' of his people (1 Kgs 8:28, 30, 38, 45, 49, 52). Jeremiah uses the vivid phrase 'let my supplication fall before you' (Jer 37:20; 42:2). In two passages, however, the word denotes the favor itself rather than the request: Joshua's enemies received no grace (Josh 11:20), and the post-exilic community received a moment of grace from the Lord (Ezra 9:8).
