Shuhite; gentile adjective for a descendant of Shuah, applied exclusively to Bildad in Job
A gentile adjective identifying someone as a descendant of Shuah, one of Abraham's sons by Keturah (Gen 25:2). In Scripture it appears only as an epithet for Bildad, one of Job's three friends. The LXX renders it as Sauchites. Bildad the Shuhite speaks in three cycles of dialogue (Job 8, 18, 25), consistently arguing that suffering results from sin and that God's justice is inflexible.
