Ónice o piedra preciosa bandeada, usada en las vestiduras del sumo sacerdote y entre los tesoros del Edén
Una gema preciada que aparece en algunos de los escenarios con mayor carga simbólica de las Escrituras. Se encuentra entre los tesoros del Edén en la tierra de Havila (Gn 2:12), se prescribe para las hombreras del efod donde se graban los nombres de las doce tribus de Israel (Éx 25:7; 28:9, 20), y figura entre las ofrendas que David reunió para el templo (1 Cr 29:2). Job declara que el valor de la sabiduría supera al oro y a la piedra de שֹׁהַם (Job 28:16). La identificación mineralógica exacta sigue siendo debatida — las versiones antiguas varían entre ónice, berilo y sardónice — pero el contexto constante es de belleza, rareza y propósito sagrado.
