The proper name Remaliah (רְמַלְיָהוּ) identifies the father of Pekah, who seized the throne of Israel by assassination (2 Kgs 15:25). The name appears almost entirely in the patronymic formula 'Pekah son of Remaliah' across Kings, Isaiah, and Chronicles. Isaiah's deliberate use of 'the son of Remaliah' without the royal title (Isa 7:4–5, 9; 8:6) constitutes a pointed refusal to dignify the usurper — reducing him to his father's name alone.
