The qesitah was a unit of value used in the patriarchal period, though its precise weight or worth remains unknown to us. Jacob purchased land in Shechem for one hundred qesitahs, and Job's comforters each gave him one qesitah along with a gold ring as a restoration gift. The term appears nowhere else in Scripture and had apparently become archaic or obsolete by later biblical times, suggesting it belongs to very early Israelite economic practice.
