Kiriathaim ('double city,' from the dual form of qiryah) refers to at least two distinct locations in the Hebrew Bible. The primary one is a city in Moab, associated with Reubenite territory (Num 32:37; Josh 13:19), site of a battle in the age of Abraham (Gen 14:5), and subject of prophetic oracles against Moab (Jer 48:1, 23; Ezek 25:9), probably modern Qureyat southeast of Mount Attarus. A second Kiriathaim was a Levitical city in Naphtali (1 Chr 6:76), corresponding to Kartan in Joshua 21:32. The dual ending may suggest a twin settlement or paired towns.
