This place name appears only in Judges 7:22, describing the Midianites' flight after Gideon's victory. The text says they fled 'toward Zererah, as far as the edge of Abel-meholah.' Most scholars consider this name textually corrupt, likely originally reading 'Zarethan' (a known location) or 'Zeredah.' The Septuagint's rendering differs significantly, suggesting early textual uncertainty. Despite the uncertain reading, it clearly designates a location in the Jordan valley toward which the routed Midianite army fled.
