Ziklag, a Philistine city in the Negev given by Achish of Gath to David during his exile.
Tsiqlag (Ziklag) was a frontier city in the southern Negev, originally allotted to both Judah (Josh 15:31) and Simeon (Josh 19:5; 1 Chr 4:30), but held by the Philistines by the time of Saul. When David fled from Saul, king Achish of Gath granted him Ziklag as a personal fief, and it remained royal Judahite property 'to this day' (1 Sam 27:6). The Amalekite raid and burning of the city while David was away provoked one of the great crises of his fugitive years (1 Sam 30:1–26), and the news of Saul's death reached David there (2 Sam 1:1; 4:10). Warriors from various tribes rallied to David at Ziklag (1 Chr 12:1, 20). Postexilic settlers reoccupied the site (Neh 11:28).

Senses
1. Ziklag (proper noun, city in the Negev) The toponym Ziklag (צִקְלַג), identifying a single Negev city at the border of Judah and Philistia. All fifteen occurrences—with minor orthographic and prepositional variants—refer to this one location. Its narrative significance centers on David's exile period: received from Achish (1 Sam 27:6), raided by Amalekites (1 Sam 30:1–26), and serving as David's base when he learned of Saul's death (2 Sam 1:1). Tribal allotment lists (Josh 15:31; 19:5) and postexilic resettlement records (Neh 11:28) round out the references. 15×
