N-proper-fs  |  10× in 1 sense
Zoar; a small city at the southeastern end of the Dead Sea where Lot fled from Sodom's destruction.
The name Zoar (meaning 'small, insignificant') belongs to one of the five cities of the plain, originally called Bela (Gen 14:2, 8). It became Lot's refuge when he pleaded that it was 'a little one' and was spared from the fiery judgment that consumed Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen 19:22-23). Later prophetic references in Isaiah 15:5 and Jeremiah 48:34 mention Zoar in oracles against Moab, confirming its location near the southeastern shore of the Dead Sea. Moses glimpsed it from Mount Nebo (Deut 34:3).

Senses
1. Zoar (place name) Zoar (tso'ar), a city at the southeastern end of the Dead Sea, one of the five cities of the plain originally called Bela (Gen 14:2, 8). Its name, meaning 'small' or 'insignificant,' derives from Lot's plea that it was 'a little one' (Gen 19:20), and it was spared from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as Lot's place of refuge (Gen 19:22-23, 30). It appears in Moses' panoramic view from Nebo (Deut 34:3) and in prophetic oracles against Moab (Isa 15:5; Jer 48:34). The Septuagint renders it as Segor/Zogor, while Spanish Tzoar/Zoar and French Tsoar/Zoar all preserve the same referent. 10×
