N-msc  |  4× in 1 sense
bare rock, shining rock surface, exposed and smooth stone
A term for a bare, smooth rock surface—exposed, glaring, and without vegetation or cover. Ezekiel uses it four times in chapters 24 and 26, describing bare rock where blood is placed visibly (24:7-8) and predicting that Tyre will become a bare rock for spreading nets (26:4, 14). Nehemiah 4:7 (Qere) may refer to exposed, open places. The image is desolation: rock stripped of soil, plant life, or any covering—stark and bare.

Senses
1. sense 1 Ezekiel 24:7-8 twice uses 'bare rock' (צְחִיחַ סֶלַע) as the place where Jerusalem's blood was poured out—not on dust-covered ground, but on exposed rock that cries out for vengeance. Ezekiel 26:4, 14 prophesy that Tyre will become a 'bare rock,' a desolate place for fishermen to spread nets. Spanish peña (rock) and peña desnuda (bare rock) capture the exposed, barren quality.
