Pekah, son of Remaliah, usurping king of Israel who reigned during the Syro-Ephraimite crisis
The name of a military officer who assassinated King Pekahiah and seized Israel's throne, reigning approximately 752–732 BC. Pekah is most remembered for his ill-fated alliance with Rezin of Damascus against Judah, the Syro-Ephraimite crisis that prompted Isaiah's famous Immanuel prophecy (Isa 7:1). His reign ended when Hoshea conspired against him, continuing the cycle of violence that marked Israel's final decades.
