Paran, a wilderness region northeast of Sinai associated with Israel's desert wanderings
A vast desert expanse stretching between Sinai and the Negev, Paran appears at pivotal moments in Israel's journey. Hagar and Ishmael settle in its wilderness (Gen 21:21), and Israel camps there after leaving Sinai (Num 10:12). It is from the wilderness of Paran that the twelve spies are dispatched into Canaan (Num 13:3), making it the staging ground for one of Scripture's most consequential decisions.

Senses
1. Paran The proper name of a wilderness region in the northeastern Sinai peninsula, serving as a major waypoint during Israel's wilderness wanderings. Mentioned as Ishmael's dwelling place (Gen 21:21), a departure point after Sinai (Num 10:12; 12:16), and the base from which spies were sent to Canaan (Num 13:3). Spanish retains 'Parán' with an accent, while English standardizes to 'Paran.' 11×
