A heap or pile, used of grain stores, rubbish mounds, and ruins
Denotes a mound formed by accumulation — whether of harvested grain, rubble, or destroyed buildings. In Ruth 3:7, Boaz lies down at the end of a grain heap after winnowing, a scene rich with harvest imagery. Haggai 2:16 uses the word for a grain pile that disappoints expectations. In Nehemiah 3:34 and Jeremiah 50:26 it shifts to rubble and ruin-heaps, where the Spanish 'montón' and French 'monceau' both capture the sense of a formless mass piled up.

Senses
1. heap, pile A heap or pile of material, whether grain stored after harvest (Ruth 3:7; Hag 2:16; Neh 13:15), rubble from demolished walls (Neh 3:34), or ruins of a conquered city (Jer 50:26). The Song of Songs (7:3) employs it poetically for a heap of wheat. Cross-linguistically, translations converge on 'heap/mound' imagery — Spanish 'montón,' French 'monceau/tas' — confirming a single broad sense covering any accumulated pile. 11×
