עַמְרָם14 H6019
Amram; father of Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, grandson of Levi and head of the Amramite clan.
A personal name probably meaning 'the kinsman is exalted' (from 'am + ram), designating the most prominent figure in the Levitical genealogy between Levi and Moses. As the son of Kohath and grandson of Levi, Amram married Jochebed and became the father of Aaron, Moses, and Miriam (Exod 6:18, 20; Num 26:59). His lineage anchors the Levitical priestly line: the Amramites appear as a recognized clan in the wilderness census and temple service assignments (Num 3:19, 27; 1 Chr 26:23). He lived to 137 years according to the Priestly source (Exod 6:20). A second Amram appears briefly in Ezra 10:34 among those with foreign wives.
