Omer — a dry measure equal to one-tenth of an ephah, used exclusively in the manna narrative of Exodus 16.
A unit of dry measure appearing only in the manna account of Exodus 16, where it serves as the daily ration God prescribed for each person. The omer equals one-tenth of an ephah (Exod 16:36), roughly 2.3 liters. Each Israelite gathered an omer per head (v. 16), and remarkably, whether they gathered much or little, when measured it came to exactly one omer (v. 18). An omer of manna was also preserved in a jar before the Testimony as a memorial for future generations (vv. 32–33). The Septuagint transliterates it as gomor, and modern translations across languages — Spanish 'omer,' French 'omer,' German 'Omer' — retain the Hebrew term as a technical unit.

Senses
1. the omer A dry-capacity measure equaling one-tenth of an ephah (approximately 2.3 liters), used exclusively in the Exodus 16 manna narrative. It functions both as the prescribed daily per-capita gathering amount (Exod 16:16, 18, 22) and as the quantity preserved in a memorial jar before the ark (Exod 16:32–33). The multilingual evidence uniformly transliterates rather than translates the term, confirming its status as a fixed technical unit of measurement.
