Oscurecer, opacar, eclipsar; encubrir o ensombrecer
Este verbo denota oscurecimiento o pérdida de brillo, empleado tanto literal como metafóricamente. Lamentaciones 4:1 abre con una imagen impactante: «¡Cómo se ha oscurecido el oro!», metal precioso que pierde su lustre como metáfora de la gloria caída de Jerusalén. Ezequiel 28:3 lo usa con el sentido de «ocultar»: ningún secreto se le esconde al orgulloso príncipe de Tiro, dicho con ironía, pues él mismo es ciego a su propia vulnerabilidad. Ezequiel 31:8 afirma que los cedros del jardín del Edén «no lo igualaron» al gran árbol que representa al faraón: no podían eclipsar su esplendor. La raíz conecta con conceptos árabes de cubrir y encubrir.

1. Oscurecer y eclipsar — Tres apariciones con matices variados: oscurecimiento literal (Lamentaciones), ocultación (Ezequiel 28) y eclipsamiento (Ezequiel 31). El uso en Lamentaciones es el más poderoso: el oro que se opaca se convierte en metáfora de la gloria perdida y de lo precioso degradado.
