Merab, Saul's elder daughter promised to David but given to another
Merab was King Saul's firstborn daughter, first mentioned alongside her sister Michal in the genealogy of 1 Samuel 14. Saul promised her to David as wife in exchange for military exploits against the Philistines, but when the time came, he gave her instead to Adriel the Meholathite. This broken promise was part of Saul's pattern of using his daughters as pawns in his conflict with David. Her name appears in only three verses, marking her as a figure of unfulfilled covenant and royal manipulation.
