1. ruin, destruction — Ruin or destruction as a consequence of folly or wickedness, predominantly in Proverbs wisdom contexts. The mouth of a fool is his ruin (Prov 10:14; 13:3; 18:7), poverty is the ruin of the poor (Prov 10:15; 14:28), and destruction befalls workers of iniquity (Prov 10:29; 21:15). Also used of the cosmic ruin of the Davidic throne cast down to the ground (Ps 89:40). The multilingual glosses consistently render this as 'ruin' (arb: خراب, spa: ruina, kor: 파멸). 8×

2. terror, object of dread — Terror or an object of dread, used in prophetic contexts of the fearful judgment God brings upon nations. In Isa 54:14, the restored Zion is told she will be far from terror (מְחִתָּה). In Jer 17:17, the prophet pleads that God not become a terror to him. In Jer 48:39, Moab becomes a terror to its neighbors. The multilingual glosses consistently render this as 'terror' or 'dread' (arb: رعب, spa: terror, kor: 두려움), distinguishing it from the Proverbs 'ruin' usage. 3×
