Magog, name of a territory and people descended from Japheth
Magog appears both as a son of Japheth in the genealogical table of nations (Genesis 10:2, 1 Chronicles 1:5) and as a territorial designation in Ezekiel's prophecy against Gog (Ezekiel 38:2, 39:6). Ancient interpreters identified Magog with the Scythians or regions in Armenia and Cappadocia. The name may mean 'land of Gog,' linking it to the prophetic figure who leads forces against Israel in Ezekiel's vision of end-time conflict.

Senses
1. sense 1 A proper name denoting both a people group (descended from Japheth) and a geographical territory, prominently featured in Ezekiel's eschatological prophecy. The multilingual glosses maintain the proper name without translation, consistent with its function as a geographical and ethnic identifier in both genealogical and prophetic contexts.
