Carmesí, tinte rojo intenso o tela teñida de carmesí
Un tinte rojo intenso o púrpura-rojizo, y la tela teñida con él, probablemente derivado del insecto quermes. Crónicas incluye el carmesí entre los materiales preciosos importados para la construcción del templo, agrupado con el azul, la púrpura y el lino fino. Este préstamo del persa sugiere que era una importación de lujo, quizá de regiones especializadas en tintes rojos de alta calidad. El término se distingue del más común «escarlata» (שָׁנִי).
