Jattir, a Levitical city in the hill country of Judah, southwest of Hebron
Jattir was a town in the hill country of Judah, assigned to the Levites as one of their cities. David sent spoils there after his victory over the Amalekites, suggesting it was a friendly town that had supported him during his fugitive years. Ancient sources identify it with a village about twenty miles from Eleutheropolis, possibly modern 'Attir located between Hebron and Beersheba, though the identification isn't certain.

Senses
1. sense 1 Jattir appears in the allotment of Judah's hill country towns (Josh 15:48), designated as a Levitical city given to the Kohathite priests (Josh 21:14; 1Chr 6:57), and named among the towns to which David sent spoil after defeating the Amalekites (1Sam 30:27). The Septuagint renders it variously as Iether, Iethēr, Aiēlom, Getthōr, showing Greek uncertainty about the Hebrew consonants. Spanish Jatir, French Jattir/dans-Jattir, and German Jattir/Jeter/in-Jattir preserve phonetic approximations with some prepositional marking.
