1. Jeremiah (proper noun) — Personal name Yirmeyahu/Yirmeyah, referring to several individuals in the Hebrew Bible. Most prominently the prophet Jeremiah son of Hilkiah from Anathoth (Jer 1:1; 7:1; 11:1; 14:1; 18:1 and throughout the book of Jeremiah), but also: a warrior from Gad (1 Chr 12:11), another Gadite (1 Chr 12:14), a head of a family in Manasseh (1 Chr 5:24), father of Hamutal (2 Kgs 23:31; 24:18), and a priest who sealed the covenant (Neh 10:2; 12:1, 12, 34). The spelling alternates between the longer form yirmeyahu and the shorter yirmeyah; both are the same name. All inflectional variations (with prepositions, conjunctions, etc.) are the same referent class. 147×
