Yahweh -- the covenantal personal name of the God of Israel, the Tetragrammaton YHWH
The Tetragrammaton (YHWH), vocalized as Yahweh, is the sacred covenantal name by which God revealed himself to Moses at the burning bush (Exod 3:14-15) and by which he bound himself to Israel in covenant relationship. With over 6,500 occurrences it is by far the most frequent proper noun in the Hebrew Bible. Ancient Jewish reverence rendered it a nomen ineffabile, read aloud as Adonai ('my Lord'), a practice reflected in the Septuagint's Kyrios and in translations like the French l'Eternel and the German HERR. The name carries overtones of self-existence and faithfulness: 'I AM WHO I AM.'

Senses
1. YHWH (the divine name) The divine personal name Yahweh, revealed at the burning bush (Exod 3:14-15) and used throughout Scripture as the covenantal name binding God to Israel. Multilingual renderings reflect the ancient substitution tradition: Spanish Yahve retains the phonetic form, French l'Eternel emphasizes everlastingness, and German HERR follows the Adonai tradition. Its massive frequency (6,522 occurrences) underscores that biblical theology is fundamentally anchored in this named, covenant-keeping God. 6522×
