Prep-l  |  14× in 1 sense
Dry land or dry ground, especially as a path through parted waters or as earth distinct from sea.
A feminine noun meaning dry ground, used in vivid contrast with water throughout the Old Testament. At creation, God commands the waters to gather so that the יַבָּשָׁה appears (Gen 1:9–10). The word reaches its dramatic peak in the exodus: Israel crosses the Red Sea on dry ground (Exod 14:16, 22, 29; 15:19) and later the Jordan (Josh 4:22). Jonah confesses that the Lord made both sea and dry land (Jon 1:9), and the great fish vomits him onto the יַבָּשָׁה (Jon 2:10). Isaiah uses it figuratively for a parched Israel that God will refresh with his Spirit (Isa 44:3).

Senses
1. dry ground, dry land Dry ground or dry land (יַבָּשָׁה), used in opposition to water or sea. Appears in three major thematic clusters: (a) creation, where dry land emerges from gathered waters (Gen 1:9–10); (b) salvation-through-water narratives, where God provides a dry path through the Red Sea (Exod 14:16, 22, 29; 15:19; Neh 9:11; Ps 66:6) and the Jordan (Josh 4:22); and (c) Jonah's story, where the prophet acknowledges God as maker of sea and dry land (Jon 1:9) and is delivered onto shore (Jon 2:10). Isaiah 44:3 uses it figuratively of spiritual barrenness that God will revive. 14×
