Verbo que abarca toda la gama emocional desde el disgusto silencioso hasta la ira desatada. En Génesis 40:6, José nota que los oficiales del faraón lucen abatidos (זֹעֲפִים), simplemente perturbados tras sueños inquietantes. Daniel 1:10 emplea el participio para describir un semblante demacrado y preocupado. En el extremo opuesto, 2 Crónicas 26:19 describe al rey Uzías enfureciéndose cuando los sacerdotes le confrontan por quemar incienso sin autorización. Proverbios 19:3 advierte que la necedad del hombre tuerce su camino, pero su corazón se irrita contra el SEÑOR.
