Pure, clean, clear — free from contamination; of olive oil, incense, sky, or moral character
The adjective זַךְ (zak) describes something that is pure, clean, or clear — free from any admixture or taint. In the tabernacle legislation, it qualifies the olive oil for the lampstand as 'pure beaten oil' (Exod 27:20; Lev 24:2) and the frankincense placed on the showbread as 'pure frankincense' (Lev 24:7; cf. Exod 30:34). In the wisdom and poetic literature, the word shifts to moral purity: Job insists that his prayer is 'pure' (Job 16:17), Bildad asks whether Job is 'pure and upright' (Job 8:6), and Proverbs probes whether anyone's ways are truly 'clean' in God's eyes (Prov 16:2; 20:11; 21:8). Spanish 'puro/limpio,' Arabic نَقِيٌّ, Swahili 'safi.'

Senses
1. pure, clean, clear An adjective meaning 'pure, clean, clear' — denoting freedom from contamination or impurity in both physical and moral registers. Physically, it qualifies olive oil for the tabernacle lamp (Exod 27:20; Lev 24:2) and frankincense for the showbread (Exod 30:34; Lev 24:7). Morally, it describes personal integrity or the aspiration to it (Job 8:6; 11:4; 16:17; 25:5; Prov 16:2; 20:11; 21:8). Job 15:15 extends it to the heavens, asking whether even the sky is 'clean' in God's sight. 11×
