An Aramaic masculine noun meaning brightness or splendor, appearing only in the book of Daniel. It describes the dazzling appearance of Nebuchadnezzar's dream-image (Dan 2:31), the restoration of royal splendor to Nebuchadnezzar after his humiliation (Dan 4:36), and -- most vividly -- the change of countenance experienced by Belshazzar when he sees the handwriting on the wall (Dan 5:6, 9, 10). The word may be a loanword from Akkadian zimu ('face, countenance'). Spanish renders it as 'semblante' (countenance) and 'esplendor,' while French uses 'eclat' (radiance), capturing both the facial and luminous aspects.
