1. onward, further, beyond — An adverb expressing spatial or temporal extension outward from a reference point: 'out there, onwards, further, beyond.' Used temporally with age qualifications for Levitical service (Lev 22:27 'from the eighth day and onward'; Num 15:23 'and onward through your generations'; 1 Sam 10:3; 18:9); spatially to indicate territory beyond a boundary (Num 32:19 'on the other side... and beyond'; 1 Sam 20:22,37; Isa 18:2,7); and with preposition מִן to mean 'from beyond' a geographical landmark (Gen 35:21 'beyond the tower of the flock'; Jer 22:19; Zeph 5:27). Also used once in the sense of 'back, aside' (Gen 19:9) and once as 'far' (Num 16:37). The various prepositional combinations (וָהָלְאָה 'and onward/beyond,' מֵהָלְאָה 'from beyond') are all inflectional uses of a single adverb. 16×
