Dothan (place name in northern Israel)
A town in northern Israel, north of Samaria, where Joseph's brothers had moved their flocks (Gen 37:17) and where Elisha was surrounded by an Aramean army—until his servant's eyes were opened to see chariots of fire (2 Kgs 6:13). The site has been identified with modern Tell Dothan. All three occurrences appear in narrative settings involving travel or military movements, and the multilingual glosses uniformly preserve the proper name with minor orthographic variation (Dotan, Dotán).
