Conj-w | N-ms  |  4× in 1 sense
Generation (Aramaic); used in the phrase 'generation and generation' to express God's everlasting dominion.
The Aramaic equivalent of Hebrew דּוֹר ('generation'), appearing only in Daniel's doxologies. It occurs exclusively in the formulaic phrase 'with generation and generation' (עִם־דָּר וְדָר), proclaiming that God's kingdom endures from one generation to the next (Dan 4:3, 34). Spanish 'generación' and English 'generation' capture it directly, while French and German versions sometimes leave the Aramaic untranslated, reflecting its formulaic liturgical character.

Senses
1. sense 1 Generation (Aramaic) — a span of human succession, used exclusively in the doubled formula דָּר וְדָר ('generation and generation') to declare the perpetuity of God's sovereignty. In Dan 4:3 (= 3:33) and Dan 4:34 (= 4:31), Nebuchadnezzar confesses that God's dominion endures 'with generation and generation.' The doubling intensifies the meaning to 'every successive generation' or 'age after age.' Spanish 'generación y generación' and English 'generation and generation' faithfully mirror this Aramaic rhetorical device.
